Banners Away!

Welcome to the CropChocolate.com Design Team Blog Hop! If you've come to my blog by chance, HELLO! To start the entire show over, go visit my friend Amber's blog http://ambaju.blogspot.com. Be sure to comment on each for a chance to win a great prize from CropChocolate.com! Don't be shy....comment away and while you are at it, why not follow some (or all)!!

We were charged with coming up with a banner project to wow the socks off of you and I hope mine does just that. I love how it turned out! I've never thought about a banner on a page, but they are quickly becoming one of the hottest trends in scrapbooking these days, so it was about darn time I jumped on that bandwagon!

The first thing I usually do is dig through my paper and figure out which to use. I start by looking at the pictures I'll be working with, grab several packs of paper and lay them all out. Step back and give the "yay" or "nay." I also try to think of what other stuff I have that will go with it......buttons, brads, twine, ribbon, shapes, accent colors, etc.

Once I've picked just the right paper and embellishments, I start to work on the layout. Lately I've been grabbing a sketch I like and working with it to make it fit. The sketch I used was found on Pinterest (my other addiction) and it comes from pagemaps. The thing with sketches is that it's a guide. You can follow it to a tee, or use emelemts from it, rotate photos as needed, change patterns, sizes, it's all up to you....it's not written in stone!

The paper I chose is My Minds Eye (MME) Good Day Sunshine Girl paper, some bazzill, some twine and some buttons I had on hand. The title is stamped with some Lisa Bearnson stamps I received EONS ago, but just re-discovered. I had found this poem quite a while ago, not sure where so I apologize I am unable to give credit for it.

The flower banner was cut using the Slice Spring card. They were cut at 1". Having never done a banner before I was a little befuddled as to how to actually attach them to the twine. So I wrapped the twine around the post of the brad, secured it to the page, pulled the twine to the other side and placed it in the approximate "swag" I wanted, then attached the other side. I adhered the buttons to the flowers, used ZOTS to stick the whole kit and caboodle down right on top of the twine. The adhesive on the flowers, held the twine in place while holding the flowers in place! Genious!

Stamped my title, printed my poem on cardstock and secured it all down. One last plug I need to make is to my friend Dee Dee at http://umwowstudio.blogspot.com for the beautiful butterflies I used! Love them!

Hoping you liked my project, leave a comment if you did.....oh, heck, leave a comment anyway! :o)

Some CC Challenges......

Since I haven't posted in a while and since I have been on a project whirlwind, thought I'd catch up some with some of the recent challenges that I've done. Since being selected for the CC Design Team, which officially hasn't started yet, it's been pretty hectic!! Posts will be coming more frequently!!

Challenge 19, the most recent, was to contain paint or some other glossy liquid......such as glossy accents. This paper line is MME Good Day Sunshine Girl, the sentiment is from Cosmo Cricket. I used glossy accents on some elements on the sentiment tag and also on the red/pink-ish spots on the flags at the bottom.

Challenge 18 was another recipe: stamped image, bling and an embellishment that you wouldn't normally use. My stamped images are from SU. The bling is the stickles (on the candle flames) and the item I don't normally use is the embossing powder and heat gun! I literally had to go on a search for the embossing powder! Took me some time to find it! Paper is BG Green at Heart.

Challenge 17 was 3D. There needed to be some 3D element to the page.....this one was double duty.....it was also my CC new Focus Group challenge. So for #17, the 3D elements are the crochet border and the buttons. This paper is MME Good Day Sunshine Girl. For the Focus Group challenge, our entry needed to contain one new technique (the crocheted border) and three items chosen from a tic-tac-toe format.....I chose patterned paper, stamped image and buttons!

Thrown in there for good measure was a challenge for the CC Focus Group. Fussy Cutting! Fussy cutting is when you cut around a design or pattern either printed on the paper or stamped or drawn.....you get the jist! This paper is BG Sugar Rush.

Challenge 16 was to "GET INKY!" The flowers on this card were white when I started.....I sprayed them with Glimmer Mist and then layered them with BG Indian Summer! They went beautifully!

Challenge 15 was to make an embellishment from scratch......and to use 3 different colors in the paper choice. The paper I chose is MME Stella & Rose again......love this paper! I stamped the flower image and cut it out.

This is Challenge 14.......blue and brown as main colors. The paper line is MME Stella & Rose Hattie.

This is the next NSD Challenge......something new! The ladybug stamps are new, opened the package for the first time for this challenge. The paper I used is BG Sugar Rush.

On National Scrapbook Day CC announced that they were merging with Oh My Crafts. They had a wedding theme all weekend! This one is the first challenge......something old. I used my plastic letter stencils to outline and cut out the letters. The paper line is BG Lemonade.

This one is from CC Weekly challenge 13 - Recipe Challenge. It called for Spring theme, 3 folds somewhere and 2 different paper lines. The background is MM Dilly Dally, the printed paper is all BG Lemonade. The 3 folds are two different ribbon folds and the photo corner fold.

Well, I did it!

I submitted project/layout for the CropChocolate.com design team search.  And I was one of 10 selected!  These are the projects I submitted. This is a mini album I made as my "out of the box" project.  I have difficulty with mini albums and for this one I had directions and had to glue the pages together and fold it the right way......I loved it so much, I am considering making another!

The second project I submitted was a "me" project.  This was to reflect me as a crafter.  The layout I chose combines some of my favorite things.....my family (my favorite subjects to scrapbook), crochet (my other favorite crafty thing to do) and one of my favorite colors (Pink)!

{BYSHC} Sketch 75 - Merry Snowman
